You forget the money side. Moneybags never take risks, ever. Investors care very little about technology, the better product, or self-improvement. Even when the market research is solid, the risk is negligible and the inventor/creator pawns everything he owns to make it zero, the man with the money will ask for more safeguards. For big companies, this applies to internal development and not considered as much a risk as simply R&D. Risk-dodging is very negative and I wish the world would change.
