Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) stood his ground and joined the twenty-or-so other Republicans that have decided to vote with the House Democrats in favor of a non-binding Iraq resolution that condemns President Bush's troop surge.

Speaking of Bush, Congressman Paul was very straight-forward in his displeasure for Bush's "demented philosophy of conquest." Here is a portion of his floor speech:

RON PAUL: "In recent decades, our policies have been driven by neoconservative empire radicalism; profiteering in the military industrial complex; misplaced do-good internationalism; mercantilistic notions regarding the need to control natural resources; and blind loyalty to various governments in the Middle East."

You can add Ron Paul's name to the small list of the few level-headed Republicans left in Congress.

  • Ron Paul for President 2012 !

  • I love this guy. I don't agree with every word he says, but i very much admire his willingness to name the neo-conservatives as immoral extremists, for that is exactly what they are. They are not true republicans, they are imperialists. America should be a force for good in the world; but after the false Intel in Iraq, Iraqi oil contracts, the strategic aims in Afganistan too, the rest of the world comes to see a corrupt hypocritical country that will stop at nothing to secure its interests.

  • Im from Finland. I truly hope you choose Ron. Bush was criminal/NWO puppet and Obama seems to be same gang. Your policy have great impact in all contries. We are suffering in this moment lack of democracy here in europe. Corrupted leaders and banks are keeping us as hostages. Please choose Ron Paul! Then we might have hope too.

  • This my friends is the voice of a true statesman. There is no one as loyal to the Constitution as Ron Paul. God help us all if he isn't elected.

  • @JohnnyBoyCali: You said the US killed more civilians in the invasion phase than Saddam hussein ever killed. The invasion phase lasted only 3 months. I couldn't find the data for those three months, but I did find the data for two years. And that was all according to Iraq Body Count, a highly credible source highly critical of the Iraq War.

  • @athabascka Your count of 2 million is way off considering that 200,000 kurds were killed I could just as easily tally how many people the US had killed in Iraq, Vietnam and other wars and it would be in the millions. Also your 24,864 count is ridiculous considering the estimates are from 111,000 killed to 600,000. I have no idea why you only include the first 2 years. Also your "37%" number sounds like Bush propaganda and I doubt you have a credible source.

  • @JohnnyBoyCali: Your statement is false. It is estimated that Saddam Hussein killed roughly two million people from 1979 until 2003. In the first two years of the Iraq War, 24,865 civilians died. US-led forces were responsible for 37% of those deaths. Thats about 9,200 people. Thats in the first two years, mind you. Unlike al Qaeda and the insurgents, US forces never target civilians on purpose.
