NASA 50th Anniversary - Michael Collins

NASA 50th Anniversary celebrates Gemini 10 & Apollo 11 Astronaut Michael Collins who flew on the historic first Moon landing mission Apollo 11 with Astronauts Buzz Aldrin & Neil Armstrong.

Astronaut & Test Pilot Michael Collins was selected as part of the third group of fourteen astronauts.

His first spaceflight was Gemini 10, when he and command pilot John W. Young performed two rendezvous with different spacecraft and Collins undertook two EVAs.

His second spaceflight was Apollo 11 where he served as the command module pilot. While he orbited the Moon, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin performed the first manned landing on the lunar surface. He is one of only 24 people to have flown to the Moon.

My mother was sworn in as a WAF by Michael Collins. We have a couple very nice b&w photos , which were taken at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans.

Loved him so much In the Shadow of the Moon that I had to go right out and get his book! What a wit he has! Though I must disagree with him that autograph hounds forget about the autograph 15 years later, no way! I treasure my Apollo collection I'd rather leave it to a school than my kids! Sorry Mr. Collins but if I were ever able to get your autograph I would treasure it!
