THE LAST LEVIATHAN
Coproduction : JIMSIM/SiGGYSTERN (o:

My first two recorded songs I dedicated to peace and harmony in our world, but this song is different I love peace but I see the opposite all around me, this song (witten and composed by ANDY BARNES,copyright FRIENDLY OVERTURES 1986) expresses what I feel about us humans exploiting our world so much and make that one species after the other is endangered and under threat of extinction, but I also sang it because I wanted to express, how I feel about so much anger and hate that so many here on YT have for one another and which makes me sad!...

Having said that these were my motives to why I recorded this particular song, I again dedicate it to my deepest hope that there is more harmony and peace amongst all of us!!!! (I can´t help it (o:)....

Lyrics:

My soul has been torn from me and I am bleeding,
my heart it has been rent, and I am crying,
all beauty around me fades,
and I am screaming
I am the last of the great whales,
and I am dying

Last night I heard the cry,
of my last companion,
the roar of the harpon gun
and I was alone
I think of the days gone by
when we were thousands
and I know that I soon shall die,
the last Leviathan.

In the morning the sun arose
crimson in the sky
the sea was the colour of blood,
and I did sigh,
I went up to take a breath
It was my last one.
From the gone came the roar of death
and now I am gone

And now that we are all gone
there is no more hunting
the big fellow is no more
it´s no use lementing
what race will be next in line
all for the slaughter?
the elephant or the seal,
or your sons and daughters

My soul has been torn from me and I am bleeding,
my heart it has been rent, and I am crying,
all beauty around me fades,
and I am screaming
I am the last of the great whales,
and I am dying

This song is a very special song to me!!! I learnt it when I was on a voluntary work camp (SCI) on a small Scottish Shetland island (Fair isle). I was there together with other volunteers to help the farmers with their work. On the first day the people of the island gave us a welcoming party, and and there was a lot of singing. A woman from the island sang a song to us,which I liked very much. I went to her and asked her what is this song about and she answered instead do you want to learn it.I was startled! I had always loved to sing but had not done so for several years (ever since I was in a commercial collage where art ment nothing) I had forgotten how much I loved singing and was actually afraid to sing in public..but through her I learnt this song, when I came home to the other volunteers they were asking me, what did you learn to singand I told them, they wanted me to sing for them, but I was afraid so to make it more comfortable for me, I put a candle on the floor and kneeled before the candle (it helped that there was no electricity after 10 p.m.) so it was dark all around me,I started to sing this song, and while I sang it, I suddenly realized that I felt a connection I suddenly was the whale, and I could express what I felt about what befell my brethrens.this song made that from being afraid of singing in front of people or even just aloud, I found my voice again and ever since than I have been singing, so this song is connected to my own rediscovering my inner voice and I am very thankful for it.

May there be peace throughout the whole world!

  • Very nicely performed Siggy! As always.

It would be nice if some of these majestic creatures survived - so that our grandchildren could see them. They are beautiful animals. I've always been wondering how does it feel like, when on of them passes You...

I'm really happy You're placing these videos Siggy :) I see You have a growing number of fans. I'm glad to be one of them :) Keep up the good work. Thanks!

  • @Rogvist in which case, should you happen apon new zealand! go to the coast at the right time of year and you will actually see grey whales jump right out of the water! it will take your breath away seeing 40 to 50 feet of multi ton creature throw itself in the air, gracing us with something so special that you'll never forget. its alomost like they want us to see and share something special, but of course, its just them at the disco trying to get laid!

I wish you good luck for this competition and hope that after it you will share your poem here...I would love to hear it!

  • They are truly magic to see, and they come to see us, dive under us, romp and frolic around our whale watching boats etc... I have written a poem which I have entered in the Peter Porter Poetry Prize 2011 competition here in Australia...Wish me luck. I have tried to share that magic with poem...Not easy, believe me. Cannot share it here, as it has to stay pristine and unpublished for the comp until the judging in April. It is titled WILD...In the meantime, we can enjoy your lovely video...
