  • Simon could you make this brush and pens holder i liked the idea instead of having all my pens and pencils fall off the desk while i'm in the library studying and writing.

  • @AVAINTEX Yes I could make , maybe I should make a run of them ! ? SL

  • Hi Simon, thanks for sharing again your tips... and joke! I had a good laugh with Napoleon... because I'm french! Back to business : how would you estimate the amount or percentage of grog in your raku clay because mine has 40% and impossible to throw without bleeding! I usually throw with 25% but is that enough to stand the shock?

    Take care,

    Florence

  • @flowbaz Bonjour ! ca va ? ha ! 40% is too much to throw with for sure . 25% is borderline I would say ! You know the pots that I am rakuing in these clips is just a regular stoneware clay with no added grog at all !!! try 10-15% grog & see how you get on ...i think you will be fine with that . SL

  • Love the philosophy on the usefulness of pots. Loving the videos from Barryville.

    Take care,

    -Chris

  • @tripanfal Hi Chris ! good glad to hear ! I will be around for a while yet if you wish to "visit ". SL

  • simon have ever added colorants to you glaze? i'm thinking 1 to 2 percent. john

  • You mean the clay you're using has no grog at all? Waouw! I would expect some breakage but I'm just repeating what I got told by a former pottery teacher... Anyway the less groggy clay in the region has 25%, or no grog at all. Florence.

  • Will be nice to see the Lamps when they are put together!

Several years ago, when I first started back

at pottery, I used a cold back room in our basement for my studio.

I didn't have running water back there, I built a wide shelf behind a free standing washroom tub,( drained into bucket) on the shelf I had a 5 gallon cooler, the type with a spicket, and a 3 gal electric coffee pot, both filled with water. On cold days I heated the water in coffee pot " Hot and Cold running water" !!!

  • I've just finished reading "A Potter's Book" by your Grandfather and it was very interesting to see you double dipping, as it was one of the many useful tips I took from the book, with the intention of trying.

    Mark.

  • Another good video to bookmark.

The pour technique you used on the first pot to glaze the inside is really tough to get the nack of. Do you have a tip for that technique, too? If so would you share it with us in one of your future videos?

    Thanks again!

    Dennis (Yokohama)

  • Hey Simon! It's hard to see what you are doing with your double dip glazing technique. That's a very useful thing to know. Is it just a dip, quick lift and half re-plunge?

  • That dip technique is cool. I wish I know how to do it.

  • Simon, do you sell any of your mugs or teabowls that arent raku? i didnt see any of these on your website...please let me know..thanks

  • i got back into the studio today after almost a year... still got it :) an i agree. working clean is a must. espeshyaly when glazing.

  • Thanks - some really good tips again.. I am stealing your joke for the history department.. I usually stand until the glaze dries but I noticed you had a little trick putting the second pot down but I couldn't quite see what you did.
