Not sure were you are getting your information from but I'm using firmware 8.351 at the moment on my GO720 and the FM Transmitter is still working and it has never stopped working on any of the other versions.
Next thing you will tell us is that the BlueTooth has been disabled.

WARNING:
Shoppers: TomTom's no longer offer FM transmitting of voice instruction due to laws in Europe they have DISABLED FM Transmitting for the entire world.
Existing Go 730 users: if you perform the necessary firmware update above 8.01 you will LOSE FM transmitting of voice instruction. TomTom has disabled this feature for the entire world. Garmin, took a much more logical approach and only disabled it in Hungary and Poland (the two countries that ban the FM tranmission).

they used these in the ambulances in the UK for some time but got fed up of landing up in the middle of fields surrounded by cows!!
