Yep, that would be correct. The first Spirit theme was composed by James R. Kirk of TM Productions was used from 1984-2000 (second phase was known was the WFAA 1986 News Theme by the NMSA). The second Spirit theme was composed by Stephen Arnold and was used from 1996-present. My guess is that KMBC was going to use the TM Spirit theme at the very least.

I am glad you are trying to save the old tapes. That's classic stuff.

oh i mean WFAA in Dallas.

WFFA had the "spirit" graphics a year later.

I've uploaded pretty much what I have... the news opens I've found from that era aren't "opens", per se, but the anchor talent simply reading over a VO and saying. But, with more and more tape getting sifted through and sorted through, you never know...

Are you sure this bumper is from 1983? I could have sworn WFAA was the original station for the Spirit package, but not until 1984.
Nevertheless, neat bumper!

It could have been 1984; this was just my best guess.

I am seeing a response you wrote a while back about the station moving, so I take it you work for KMBC. You guys moved out of the Lyric Opera Building?!? That's kinda sad...I did a few shows there when I was an undergrad voice major at KU, and I ran into station people all the time.

'fraid so... we're now at 63rd & I-435. It's nice to be in a new station and a new facility, but the old place had so much character.
