Level 4 of our curriculum is derived from Gaelic folklore rather than the broadsword manuals. The great swordsman M'Comie Mor was said to be the master of a "graceful and sweeping" quick draw. We have attempted to reconstruct this lost technique.

  • Is that your ribbon hilt, Chris?

    Slaintè mhòr!

  • Sure is! Nice weapon, isn't it?

  • Looks like it. Too bad one can't make out details in the video. You've got one of the Del Tin blades on that one?

  • Yeah, Donnie Shearer made the hilt and put it together with a Del Tin.

  • So it is a ribbon hilt! I wonder if the Del Tin blade he currently uses is the same as the one used on the old MRL baskethilts? They used Del Tin blades as well. I actually have a bare blade from an Atlanta Cutlery sale. I'd like to get a ribbon hilt put on to mine.

  • Actually, he has these made exclusively for him by Del Tin to replicate the characteristics of the old Highland blades- although they still aren't as flexible.
