Joseph Marshall III was born and raised on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation and is an enrolled member of the Sicangu Lakota (Rosebud Sioux) tribe. Because he was raised in a traditional Lakota household by his maternal grandparents, his first language is Lakota. In that environment he also learned the ancient tradition of oral storytelling.

  • I teared up listening to this story. I realize it is that.... a story, but you never know Wytedove, it just may have happened in history. Many Indeginous peoples were captured by other tribes, made as slaves and some accepted into the enimy's tribes and families. Mostly young children though, I believe. Grown women too. Grown men I believe were used mainly as slaves, and tortured. So even though I know this to be only a story, I also know that it very well could have happened. Thank you friend
