The guy that hit really hard was Jim Guthrie and he never returned to open wheel racing after this crash to my knowledge.

@LostHighwayFilms I agree. Many people say 'fuck Tony George'. Hell, if you asked me, he saved it. CART would have killed itself sooner or later had there been no IRL. Then what would we have done?
So before you cuss out Tony, think about what could have happened. CART killed itself. I love the sound of turbos and the look of the Lolas and Reynards. But CART had been making some dumb decisions.

Sam Schmidt wasnt injured in this crash. He was injured 2 years later in a testing crash at the Walt Disney speedway.
