I saw this doll in the window of an old antiques store one day and thought it looked creepy. It was missing one eye and looked like it was possessed. I bought it for $50 thinking one day I will make a short with it.
A couple years later, Trevor and Veronica had the idea of shooting a mock Italian horror film, and I mentioned having the doll. This was back in 1999, and we had a venue in Vancouver (the Blinding Light) that would screen home made short films every month. We decided to make a trilogy called Una Cattiva Bambola (the Evil Doll) and put the deadline on ourselves to finish each part in time each month to screen at the Blinding Light. (Editing capabilities back then were not as easy or expedient as they are now for the average home computer). We also wanted to up the ante in what we incorporated into each short, so each subsequent one would get more and more exciting.
Oh... we don't speak Italian, and just looked up random phrases for the dialogue.
