Little thing they don't tell you here, but it was the first time Charmeleon fully listened to Ash since evolving from Charmander. Ash had told Charmeleon to battle Aerodactyl to help them out, and it did...Then Aerodactyl flew away before Charmeleon could finish the battle as Ash had ordered, taking Ash with it. This angered Charmeleon, because he couldn't obey his trainer, so he evolved to finish the battle. As Charizard, he also saved Ash before falling asleep due to Jigglypuff's song!
