USING THE WWW.LANDGATE.WA.GOV.AU MAP VIEWER
HUNTING FOR POSSIBLE OLD BOTTLE DUMPS AND
ALSO STRUCTURAL REMAINS FOR METAL
DETECTING HUNTING SITES...
I FOUND THIS UNSUAL "ROUND OBJECT"
WHICH LOOKS LIKE A POSSIBLE METEORITE CRATER.
I AM UNSURE WHAT IT IS... BUT IF THERE IS ANY METEORITE
EXPERTS OR AMATEURS OUT THERE, FEEL FREE TO REPLY
WITH YOUR OPNIONS.
THE "CRATER" IS LAYING IN AN OLD RIVER BED.
THE RIVER BED IS WHITE BECAUSE OF SALINITY.
THE LOCATION IS NEAR LAKE DUMBLEYUNG IN THE GREAT
SOUTHERN REGION OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA.
THE WEATHER TOO HOT RIGHT NOW FOR ME TO WALK
OUT THERE TO CHECK IT OUT.
THE SATELLITE RESOLUTION IN THE PHOTOS ARE
BETTER THAN WHAT GOOGLE EARTH PROVIDES.

  • It could possibly be an old farm dam used for watering livestock

  • Could be. Below it in the field there's what looks to be a smaller one as well . Get out there at night with a torch and detector!!

  • @greenwooddesign That one is a Watering Dam for Livestock to drink water.

  • Billy - Like Mulder - "I want to Believe" and "The Truth is OUT THERE" - so - the only way is to satisfy yourself is to get on down there and check it out. I did a recon on a suggested detecting site yesterday..and after walking 5 or 6 Klms in the heat of the day..I learned something. The site holds little potential..but what a great walk it was. Cheers mate GL & HH

  • @fluoridekid .....it's about 50 metres across.

  • It isn't an impact crater.

It is likely a manmade 'pond' feature.

  • It looks fascinating, Billy, and I know that there are meteor craters all over Australia. Difficult to tell just how big it is. As Warren says, there should be detectable fragments all round that area if it is indeed a meteorite. I'd like to think that it is a crater. I hope you do get the opportunity to take a look at it when the weather cools down for a comfortable trip out there. GL & HH :D

  • just a thought...at top right of the map looks to be a river chanel or a lake. if there is any current there that hole you see could be water returning to the surface. I hope I am wrong for your sake

  • "Now that's my kinda place mate.....Great video...All the best ..R.D.D.

  • Can't wait for the field trip on that one Billy, should be some detectable fragments if it was a meteorite? Go for it mate. GL and HH.
