This is a bunch of Crap. All the Tunisia government has to do is to allow DNA testing on the Carthaginian graves. These people are searching for a needle in a haystack. People migrated along the coast for thousands of years. no way they can find Phoenican and Canaanite DNA. Alexander the Great killed all of the Phoenicians of Tyre (circa Lebanon) and carried women/children off to slavery around 335 BC. Romans killed off the Carthaginians and the Romans became new Carthage. This Roman DNA.

Given that we aren't even sure who the Sea People were, how can Spencer Wells be so sure that the Phoenicians weren't related to them?
All in all, not a very deep documentary. Good for people who knew nothing about the Phoenicians to begin with, not not much here for ancient history buffs.

@brightspark495 wrong..the real phoenicians moved to europe the pheonicians are the basques, the original europeans n the people who gave rise to white people...the basques are of a holy bloodline.

Actually, they did--there is a missing, seventh part to this video. It explained that there is indeed a "Phoenician" type, a set of genetic mutations specific to Phoenicians which is detectable in their descendant populations today. They traced it on the Y-chromosome, which passes virtually untouched from father to son, unlike the X, which gets a good mix from both parents (women = XX, men = XY). You'll notice they were only testing men.

The Last Canaanites / Phoenicians in Libanon are killed by Alexander the great ( the killer).. what left of them are mixed later with Macedonians...
The real native Canaanites are now in north Algeria , Morocco and Malta.
That is what I think .
The old version of the language is still spoken. in Morocco and Algeria >> they call it Darija.
I m very interested in Canaanites as a special race and special bloodline.
Thank you.

What a waste of time and money this show was. One false start after another, just for that forced feel-good ending. And what ever came of the DNA from the king's teeth?
Some NatGeo producer should have pulled the plug early on and said "sorry folks, we don't have a show here."
Or as the guy on the ship said "there goes that &%@ tool!"
conclusion: lebanese=phoenician=canaanites, you guys have a great history and should be proud of it.

Having Phoenician origins does not mean Lebanese are not Arabs. Egyptians have Pharaoh origins, it doesn't mean they are not Arabs. All Europeans dont have the same origins, however they are all Europeans. Yes Arabs are passing through dark ages; however instead of denying reality, Lebanese should be trying to improve the Arab socio-cultural situation (and in some means they are).
