Viggen was not really cut for dog fight. But I know an incident where a captain in swedish air force let a russian mig take tail over baltic sea. With afterburner on he dived straight down with the mig in tail and just above the surface pulled up with the result of the mig going straight in the "pool". SPLOSH.
Viggen was more lowflight, surprice, you´re dead, type of airplane.

@michaeltaby Im am a captain-commander of the Swedish Airforce try my saab aj-37 viggen, there's no way an F-16 can match a nuclear attack aircraft with 50 megaton hydrogen-bomb at it's belly!!!

@michaeltaby This aircraft is the only plane who ever locked a SR71- Blackbird.
And that happend not just once. Viggen was an awsume aircraft who was very stable at low altitude in high speed!

The thrust reversers on these things throw a lot of runway crap back into the engine intake during slow-down.

At the and of the film you see the word volvo
I thougt it was a SAAB viggen not volvo viggen?? svenska aeroplan aktie bolaged or something like that(supermachine).

Volvo Aero a subsidiary of Volvo and they have made engines to nearly all Swedish military aircrafts since the 1950s. And the engine in the Viggen is no exception.
