This video is part one, there is a part two.

The boring bars Micromark sells can't be used on a small bore (1/2") unless you grind some clearance. The boring bars that come with the boring head however can be used on a small bore because they have lots of clearance. I made a boring bar holder out of aluminum to be clamped in the quick change tool holder.

If you are going to be clamping it in the tool post that came with the machine then you'll have to take some measurements to make sure the clamping area fits in the tool post, and you should make it smaller so you have room to shim to get the center height, and finally make sure the hole can be near the lathe's centerline. In other words, you wouldn't want to mill the flats where you clamp on and find out the boring bar is already over the centerline.

I had some left over 1 1/4" aluminum bar stock for this project. I had milled it down in size on one side though.
