  • Chet looks scared and uptight.

  • ...think I'd have to agree, if the death-grip he seems to have on the bell

of his trumpet is any indication.

  • i don't understand, i think chet is swingin' really hard on this. he's hitting nice turns throughout the whole solo...what's wrong with it?

  • This is called Donna Lee only because Donna Lee was a "contrafact," a polite word for "counterfeit"--when a melody that is superimposed over the chords (harmonic structure) of another tune. According to saxophonist Jimmy Heath, jazz players did it often, to avoid copyright obligations. For whatever reason, the opening melody Bird plays here is actually the tune on which Miles based Donna Lee--a tune from 1916 titled "Back Home Again in Indiana." Sorry if this was covered in earlier comments

  • @Godsguy12 I think because in the film "Lets Get Lost" someone metioned that he wasn't really into the whole be bop scene. He perfered to play ballad or uptempo swing tunes etc. As everyone knows he tried out for a spot to jam with Bird and made it. He mostly learned by ear throughout his entire career so It amazing he pick up all the stuff that Bird threw out. I believe Chet Baker is one of the many underated jazz musicians and I love these recordings of these to favorites.

  • @shawoody i love chet but with all due respect he sounds scared and uptight in my opinion on this track.

  • @JckDupp LOL!

  • @Sunderlanding Pepeu Gomes may be person that fits your can't think moment.

  • @larrybeetree I listen to Choro music all the time. What's your point? Choro players are good at playing Choro, but I can't think of any who are kick ass speed metal players as well. Just so you know Jazz songs can stand on their own without solos as well.
