Progress = change with positive results.
Selling out = change to fit popular mainstream quota, negative results.
Violent New Breed wasn't any more mainstream than, say, glam metal. It was change with a result that is still enjoyable.
Metallica = sell out.
Shotgun Messiah =/= sell out.
