The timing on "Well, it makes a difference to the sheep" and "I didn't mention the sheep" is genius. I love this absurdist comedy from Freberg. Was he ahead of his time?
@cbak12sg actually, i liked this one. the singer having to deal with the krass, pain in the ass record company guy who keeps pushing to shorten the freight list
I don't think this is one of his better spoofs. I prefer Elderly Man River with the great Daws Butler, and Banana Boat Song. Nevertheless, with Freberg, Spike Jones, and later in the UK, the Barron Knights and later still in the US Weird Al Yankovic, at least once upon a time pop music was all the better for having the mickey taken out of it. Shame it now takes itself so seriously.
@rorysparrow1 THIS is DEFINITELY a parody of the Lonnie Donegan 78 released in 1956 - the other side of the Stan Freberg record is a similar great parody of "Heartbreak Hotel"
Johnny Cash did not record "Rock Island Line" until much later...

Yes, it's Peter Leeds (he also played the annoyed musician on Stan's version of "The Banana Boat Song" a few months later).
