Margret: Come OOOOON Ally! We'll be fine!
Me: Well... I guess so.
Margret: Great!

She climbed up onto the roof of the old, broken-down house. I followed after her, slowly ascending to the top where she was laying, gazing at the night sky, freckled with brilliant, little stars.

Margret: Look Ally! A shooting star! Make a wish!
Me: I wish that my parents would actually start caring about me.
Margret: I wish I could meet my mom.
Me: Margie... Your mom is dead.
Margret: I know. I just wish I could.

Just then, the roof started caving in, Margaret started falling I tried to grab her, but she just fell. I heard the sickening thud.

Me: MARGIE!?
Margret: ...
Me: MARGIE!? YOU HAVE TO BE OKAY!

I slipped down to the window, it had gotten stuck half-open.

I tried to get through but it was too small for me. Only one way to help her. I stared down at the ground. Three stories down. I screamed my hardest and let my fingers slip from the sill.

I'd kill myself to save Margret... I very well may be doing that now.

I heard another sickening thud, coming from under me. My leg snapped. I scream once more, writhing in pain, and then everything faded into black.

-Four Months Later-
I felt poking and prodding along where my leg should be. I couldn't move. I couldn't cry out in pain. I couldn't ask them about Margie. I couldn't ask them why I only have half a left leg. All I could do was lie and suffer through the unbearable agony, trying to concentrate on the voices.

???: Is she alright?
???: Ha-ha, yeah right. She fell from the window of a three story building.
???: So... She's... Not going to... Make it?
???: Kid, it'd be a miracle.
???: That's horrible... C-Can she hear us?
???: I don't have any idea.
???: Better pray to god.
???: Maybe, maybe. What's your name kid?
???: Justin.
???: How do you know her, Justin?
Justin: I don't. I just saw her, and thought she was beautiful.
???: That's so romantic. I'm Cedric by the way.
Justin: Nice to meet you Cedric.
Cedric: So I'll be seeing you?
Justin: Yeah.
Cedric: Good. I have to go, you can stay a while if you'd like.
Justin: Sure. Have a good one.
Cedric: You two kid.

I was overwhelmed by all this information. My head was spinning. I felt someone-Justin I assume-sit on my bed and take my hand.

Justin: Hey Beautiful. I don't know if you can hear
me or not, but I just want to comfort you in some way. Where are your parents?

He paused, as if I could answer.

My parents don't give a damn if I'm dead or not.

Justin: Wherever they are, they're missing out on one gorgeous girl.

I wish I could smile and see the face behind these loving words, directed at me, a stranger.

Justin: I heard you're hurt pretty bad there. I heard you about killed yourself to save your friend. That was brave. I bet you're a great girl. Probably have an amazing boyfriend that loves you. Probably have lots of people who love you. Hell, I love you, and I'm a complete stranger.

I heard him sigh.

Justin: I just... I don't know. You remind me so much of Jamie. I miss her. She was my life. But... Then... That accident. She loved walking in the woods. One time when she went-all alone-She got mauled by a bear and... K-Killed.

I felt a few tears fall onto my hand.

Poor, poor boy. So sweet, but with so many ruined dreams... So much ruined love. No. Not ruined. Just postponed until he gets up to heaven with her.

Justin: And here I am, spilling my guts out to a stranger that may or may not be able to hear me. It's just- Everyone else just says that she is in a better place. I know she is, in heaven, with god, but... What about me? Where's my better place? Why must I be left all alone, without anyone or anything to help me get back on track?
