Combined driving is the fastest growing equestrian sport in the country. Grounded in tradition, combined driving compels a unique partnership between horse or pony and driver that relies on training and trust. An offshoot of ridden three-day eventing it features the elegance of dressage, the excitement of cross-country and an intricate test of skill and precision.
The most prestigious of the major events, The Laurels at Landhope in West Grove, Pa., is an International Competition hosting the best drivers from Canada, Mexico and the United States and is recognized by the Federation Equestre Internationale
I'd say the water was over 30 cm.... was the rule different in 2005? Would be interesting to know who the CD was. And some very aggressive use of the whip,by the first 2 competitors. Approaching the bridge and making a horse dead pull up hill out of water is a good way to permanently damage a horses legs, ie bowing a tendon, blown stifle, etc. This not a very impressive representation of combined driving. From Sarah Schmidt on the drivers show much more competence.

Cruel!!!! Of course it isn't cruel. Its just a lovely example of very skillful equestrian sport. Lovely video.

Future Eventer93 if you think this is cruel you better change your goals of being a future "Eventer". With all the mishaps and deaths they have had in eventing then you better get out now rather than face reality and what can happen in ANY sport.

A joy to watch - very capable drivers, smart ponies and everyone having a great time.

I am sorry, but this sport is cruel.

Cruel? If the horses werent enjoying they wouldnt do it. CDE's are no easy work, they are something the horse and driver have to be into.

Absolutely super video. Really beautiful to watch. I ride rather than drive but this looks so much fun. Lovely ponies, really hard workers, and so agile. Talent drivers ('whips' aren't they called. Sorry for ignornance) and its good to see another equestrian event where we're better than the men! LOL
