The lyric "The Yanks they have all gathered in the heart of Temple Bar, with Irish blood all in their veins, they joined us for a jar."
It's a nod to the holiday as we know it today. St. Patrick's day in Ireland is a holy day of obligation, so traditionally it involved going to mass, no big parade. The parade tradition took off in America. So the Yanks gathering in Temple Bar on the day, a party hub in Dublin, reflects the spilling over of the Irish-American tradition.

Awesome song, still trying to figure out the part about the Yanks though. I guess I would be considered one since i'm from the USA but have an Irish heritage. Just so you know things suck over here as well!
