Nancy Keenan, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, discusses the meaning of the term "pro-choice" as it relates to the abortion debate.

-----

The Wolfson Center for National Affairs at The New School presents "The Abortion Controversies," a panel discussion focusing on the Supreme Court's recent decision in Gonzalez v. Carhart, which has thrown the status of Roe v. Wade into doubt and suggests that the controversy may be reaching a new level of intensity.

Marjorie Heins, founder and coordinator of the Free Expression Policy Project at the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU's School of Law will moderate a discussion of this historic decision with Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, Daniel C. Maguire, professor of moral theological ethics, Marquette University, and author of Sacred Rights, and Caitlin Borgmann, assistant professor, CUNY School of Law and editor of the Reproductive Rights Prof Blog. - The New School

Nancy Keenan is the current president of the United States-based abortion rights network NARAL Pro-Choice America. Keenan has also served in the Montana legislature and was the Superintendent of Public Instruction as a Democrat for the state of Montana from 1988-2000.

  • Did you have an abortion and DON'T FEEL GUILTY? Me too. You're not alone. Most women feel this way. Message me your story. Let's make our voices heard.

  • @ABeanieBug

Nah, it's more like "All the proloofas were born because their mother made a CHOICE,

    she wasnt forced into it."

  • I loved that she talked about the importance of sex-ed and contriception in this video. As a pro-choice supporter, I think the education is essential. If we had fewer unplanned pregnancies, we'd have fewer abortions, and that is what most pro-choice supporters want to see. We want to see fewer women feeling like they have to make this decision in the first place.

  • Before bigoted Pro-Lifers judge women who have committed to aborting their babies, we must understand that, as Pro-Lifers, it is not the women who are our enemies, nor are the doctors our enemies, not the members who choose to support abortion, but instead we face an enemy in ideas: eg. ideas claiming no moral equivalence between humans of earlier stages of life and humans of later stages.

  • I am pro-choice, but I want to reduce the number of abortions, so I want to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies, so I want to make birth control more widely available and affordable, so I support Planned Parenthood's efforts to do exactly that.

I occasionally donate a (very) little money, but more often I buy condoms, take them to their health centers and donate them.

What do pro-life people do to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies?

Let's treat the problem, not the symptom.

  • talk about moral relativism...

  • @ABeanieBug "Could of had"...go back to elementary school you moron.

  • @SunnyLovetts Yeah, Big words does make it OK. I'm only pro-choice because of how hot that woman was. And being a pro-life person trying to persuade pro-choice people is like a Christian persuading an Atheist. It's what we believe. You don't have to like it. I respect your opinion, just like I expect you to respect mine.

  • Ummm.... she sounds so evil. Baby killing is the RIGHT CHOICE to her. Disgusting. Saying big words makes murdering babies good, also saying they should give up their child for adoption WOW she loves when the innocent suffer. Being thrown away from their mothers and fathers What animal throws away its own children? ONLY the human animal. Kills its OWN CHILD for its own selfish sake. Not thinking of the yet to be brought into the world, only the currently living. I wouldd give up my life fr a chid

  • Ads are trippy...

  • @ABeanieBug """what about the guilt'""

Hexl isnt interested in making women feel like murderers, and I wonder why you ARE.
