Star Trek was originally presented to studios with a woman as second in command on the space ship and called number 1, and it was rejected and later done with Man as Capt. 2nd in command, Doctor and engineer. Women as Yeoman, Communication Officer, Nurse and various love interest for Capt. Later versions of Star Trek however gave women more authority in Star Trek Deep Space 9 woman 2nd in command, Star Trek Voyager woman in command, and Star Trek Enterprise with Woman as 2nd in command.
@chowdersbiggestfan93 Jeannie also stranded Roger on an iceberg and sent Tony to work dressed in his pajamas when he was late for a meeting. Jeannie's sister locked Tony in a birdcage and Roger in a dungeon chained to a wall. Endora was constantly doing stuff to Darren who was powerless to stop her.
Jeannie and Sam are badass!!! and didn't act out? uhh excuse me, Jeannie put Tony in the oven for crying out loud!!! Who narrorated this? It sounds like a 12 year old who just learned to read!!!
Good for you @mcdishistory! I am amazed at some of the reactionary responses to this young woman's post. She makes a cogent argument which is easily confirmed by historical evidence. A comparison of female roles on TV from any given decade will reflect the attitudes of the time. Some will push the envelope enough to draw viewers, but not so much to be rejected by them. Nothing is created in a vacuum. These shows are a product of their times, and the 60s were a tumultuous time to be sure!
u got a be careful with analyzing the past, in order review things like these very popular shows, u need to have lived thru the era, it's temptating to watch things from today's point of view , but at that time things looked different. next time get more counseling from people who really were there at the time this shows aired!
How old is this girl? I am in my mid forties and grew up at a time when women were home and took care of the families. The divorce rate today is high, kids come home to no parental figures in the homes and too much time on their hands, in those days families were closer and things were simpler. Today we have women who don't want to raise their own kids and stick them in daycare when they have husbands who make well than more than enough to support their families. Life was simpler then.
Right on the money. Thanks for connecting the historic dots for today's "smart woman"-"dumb man" scenarios that glut the entertainment industry. Genesis 4:16b, "Your desire will be for your husband and he will rule over you." Women hate this fact and fantasy of supernatural powers and magic help alleviate the pain...for about half an hour.
