www.keepturningleft.co.uk - 250 great sailing films - I built this Duck Punt to use around the Estauraies and rivers of the UK as I sail around this amazing island. I will be using it to film the birds and the waterways which even my shoal draft Mirror Offshore cannot reach. The boat used three sheets of exterior ply, about £30 of softwood 1 x 2 and door surrounds - about £30 worth of epoxy - plus paint and varnish. The rig is from an old Optimist dinghy the paddle is a single canoe paddle.Build one in seven days - the plans are available on my website - www.keepturningleft.co.uk

  • Good work Dylan. Nice to see clips. Small craft are fun, car topable, esay to operate and cheap in price. Do you still own your sailboat? One more thing....Have a look to that new online magazine and forum named: SKINNY HULL CANOE AND KAYAK SAILING MAGAZINE, replacing Old Canoe Sailing Magazine.

  • @grafophone The slug is still in commission My journey around the UK is still under way - for this coming year at least - although I have to admit that the cash flow is really rocky. As a BBC freelance the 20 per cent cuts have really hit my income - and getting sailors to cough up for content is a bit a challenge

  • Hi Dylan, great video. I would look at beefing up the thwart if you are planning on going out in a breeze or are you going to put stays on the mast? My thwart has cracks where it joins the inside of the hull, I'm thinking about adding some knees to make it stronger.

  • @lurch1e thanks for the advice - since I use it as a seat for paddling like a canoe I shall probably make it slightly wider to sit on. I might put a short forestay on.

  • That's amazing! You make it look so eazy; was that your first boat building attempt? How much did it cost? :)

  • @baddogonline under £100 to build - it sails like a dream and paddles very well. I have made two other proper boats -one a GP14 and the other a Northumbrian Coble. The speed of the build made it very satisfying

  • Nicely done sir. Both boat and video!

  • A great summary of all your hard work. Just wish my current project was so quick to build. You're a STAR Dylan!

  • Its very rewarding to build a boat and not as difficult as you might think. as long as you have the basic tools and a bit of carpentry know how. try a PDracer its just a box!! £50 and sails well.

    Regards Jay

  • great fun
