In 1987, my father and I revisited his hometown, Gernika, for the 50th Anniversary of the bombing, by Franco and Hitler during the Spanish Civil War. There, I filmed my father's reunion with childhood friends, and family. Some are renowned Basques who in this film recount their tales of horror, with deep emotional distress. Many of these people are no longer with us. I feel very fortunate to have documented these events, early on, when no one else was familiar with this story. This is a 45-minute film starring the late, John Randolph, and writer/historian, Mario de Salegi. To purchase a copy please visit: www.begonyaplaza.com

I have recently read Dave Boling's "Guernica," in which this atrocity is portrayed as the central event in a novel about a Basque family. It is a sweeping drama, bringing the tragedy of Guernica to vivid reality. It still haunts me. It is a really gripping and moving novel.
