This film investigates the controversy that surrounded Castaneda's book "Teachings of don Juan" and explores the practices of today's Yaqui Indians with Dr David Shorter, who has spent the last decade working among them in Mexico.
An investigative journalist claimed Castaneda had faked his fieldwork and that Don Juan was merely a figment of his imagination.

  • @acerb45666555 Your words are truthful. The type of person that would become a shaman in native cultures would be diagnosed as schizophrenic in our western society. The purpose of a shaman in my eyes is to bridge the gap between our known world and all the hidden worlds beyond that of our mere physical observation.. But if one of these people are entrained by a culture to not see beyond the physical you could see where the insanity may come from.

  • Oh and when "hippies" (hippies are bad irresponsible people of the wrong race who take drugs, only Indians are allowed to expand their minds as they have been doing so for a long time and it's like, ok for them) start looking around for the source of all this interesting info, they bring the cops with them. The authorities who have outlawed the intake of plants for spiritual reasons then start harassing the Indians as well. So, by crystal clear logic this means Castaneda harmed the Indians...

  • So, the "evidence" that Carlos Castaneda made the whole thing up is summarised as follows:

    a) somebody else described the astral body as egg shaped with tendrils before CC, so clearly, Castaneda stole the idea from him, and

    b) some guy's widow claimed she met CC and he wasn't "pure" enough to go on a peyote trip.

...and that concludes the evidence. Wow. Well, that's me convinced, then.

  • it is possible that castaneda went on an evil sinister path with the skills and gifts he acquired..remember don juan said you can become an evil sorcerer or live purely and do good

  • @shughes428 agreed.
