It has nothing to do with religion in my opinion."I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier" to me means he has a conscience but finds the female physique much to tempting to constantly be denying himself. I think that is evident in the video when this line is sung in the field and the women keep moving forward thrusting their chests forward and the guys keep "trying" to avoid their advances. Especially when the killersluts first move into the trailer park and are like "hey boys!!" .
