This presentation focuses on a pair of reported UFO incidents that occurred in 1962 during the X-15 Rocket Plane Research Program. Both these encounters, one during an April, 1962 X-15 flight by NASA test pilot Joseph Walker and the other during a July 1962 flight by USAF test pilot Major Robert White, took place at extremely high altitudes, right on the fringe of space.

During Major White's high-altitude test flight, while at apogee he reported sighting and visually tracking an unidentified object "for a full five seconds before it moved away". Two frames of film from the X-15's rear-facing "wing and empennage" stop-motion 16mm camera appear to capture an object (or objects) that seem to match Major White's visual description of the UFO he saw.

Several months earlier, during NASA test pilot Joe Walker's X-15 high-altitude flight, cameras aboard captured what Walker later described as being "five or six disc-shaped or cylindrical objects" near his aircraft.

During a May 11th, 1962 lecture at the "Second National Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Space Research" in Seattle, Washington, Joe Walker also claimed that one of his mission objectives during his April 1962 flight in the X-15 was to detect and film UFOs at high altitude.

During the lecture, Walker showed several photographs to the audience of these UFOs captured on film, although NASA has since only ever made one of these frames public.

Here is the link to the online version of the August 3, 1962 issue of LIFE Magazine that I reference in this presentation, where Major Robert White describes the UFO he saw out the window during his record-breaking July 17, 1962 high-altitude hop in X-15-3.

  • Can someone tell me please what is the markings above US Airforce on the plane @ 0:38?

  • @rdwafer75

Those markings you see on the NB-52 are the symbology stencils used to graphically display the number of X-15 test flights that particular mothership has already flown.

The markings denote "captive carry" flights (test flights with the X-15 attached under the wing but never released); "aborted" flights (scheduled to drop the X-15 but the drop was aborted after takeoff); and "free flight" or "drop" missions, where the X-15 was successfully released at altitude.

    Cheers,

    LC

  • @fluffywoods Only Moron here is SADLY you!! Major General White had thousands+ of hours of flight time, flown the most advanced military aircraft of his day & did so in every kind of weather conditions, awarded the Air Force Cross, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, etc. and could NOT identify what the UFO's were... BUT here comes "fluffyfatcnt" a 40yr overweight housewife who's only claim to fame is a childish YT video about her fat cat BUT thinks she knows more than White! WRONG!

  • He may have been passing through some ash of an erupting volcano. British airways pilots claimed they have seen similar things when they passed through the ash cloud of an erupting volcano.

  • @LunaCognita. Great piece of work. Regarding test pilot Joesph Walker's flights. Perhaps his plane was scanned while in flight, by these five or six disc shaped objects?

  • Photos of the X-15 just before launch clearly show a sheet of ice forming on the underside. The pilot may have been seeing chunks of ice that came loose.

  • This plane inspired the design of the Air Jordan X5.

  • blahblahblah ble le blo blo blo blah blah blah bumpity bumpbump bumpity bumpbump weeeee weeeeee bumpity bump bump wtf?
