I want to thank chatroomchi (Jane) for letting me use the footage of this show.

Cassandra Peterson (born September 17, 1951) is an American actress best known for her on-screen horror hostess character Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. She gained fame on Los Angeles television station KHJ wearing a black, gothic, cleavage-enhancing gown as host of Movie Macabre, a weekly horror movie presentation. Her wickedly vampish appearance is offset by her comical character, quirky/quick-witted personality, and valley girl-type speech.

House of Dark Shadows is a 1970 feature-length horror film by Dan Curtis based on his Dark Shadows television series. Filming took place at Lyndhurst in Tarrytown, New York with additional footage at nearby Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Vampire Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) searches for a cure so he can marry the lovely woman who resembles his long-lost fiancée Josette (Kathryn Leigh Scott).

  • I once bought an Elvira movie. Not because I wanted to but because I rented it (not knowing who Elvira was but wanting to see the movie she was hosting) and my wife took one look at her, yanked the movie out of the VCR and ran over it with our car.

Cost me 25 bucks.....and no sex for a week.

  • @TomatoeAssassin I hope your wife never watches my video! Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • Elvira asked some mighty profound questions between 9:00 and 9:20, LOL. I've often wondered the same thing about Barnabas, and most vampires, in general. This was delightful. I wish that she'd been on Dark Shadows--she would have given Barnabas something to crawl out of that creaky coffin for. I miss Elvira and her witty remarks. Thanks for posting.

  • No one could give profound comedic insight on horror movies like Elvira! Thanks Thyme Bottle!

  • Elvira is such a campy fun icon of the 80's, at least for me.

Did she ever do this for Night of Dark Shadows? If so I'd love to see it.

  • Thanks for your comment! To the best of my knowledge, Night of Dark Shadows was never showcased on Movie Macabre.

  • @dfwjac I agree.

  • @TomatoeAssassin Divorce

  • Not only do I actually love this movie, but I grew up with Elvira!!!She is so much fun and has many hilarious ways of making other less entertaining movies worthwhile to watch!!Ha!When I was a kid,I was absolutely in love with her..It's great that she continues on to this day looking great, and her two starring movies were great too!!The film footage may be bad,but it's all part of the vintage fun!!Who doesn't remember being at the cheap movie theatres way back when the film was so grainy..

  • @TomatoeAssassin VCR do not exist anymore...I saw one at an antique shop for $6, I bargained the guy down to $3 plus a free video cassette tape, it was an old Elvira movie, no HD back then either. I did for historical purposes...You must be old, fella.

  • i love u elvira :)

  • This print of the film is so chopped to bits, it's ridiculous.

  • @spicnspanish one man's shit is anothers gold

  • @09nob But these aren't decent movies; therefore, you need someone like Elvira to make the movies tolerable!
