Many of us in the 1970's latched onto Finney (Keith Green promoted him) without really knowing what he believed, so I appreciate the information.

That guy in the photo just looks freaky...He'd run me away from his theology just by looking at him

@LaneCh "Faith alone" is antinomianism an invention of Paul, Marcion and a few other first and century "church fathers". These became "Roman Catholicism" and deviated with the teachings of the Nazarenes which held mankind accountable for upholding "The Laws of God". This can be seen in Acts 15:21 where "The Pillars" of the Nazarenes James, Peter and John call upon gentiles to become Noahides in order to "come to God". Jesus called this "The Kingdom of God". What Finney criticises is apostasy.

Finney believed sin was always by choice, that guilt must be chosen and could not be imputed, that imputing guilt would be an act of dishonesty, which is what I also believe. Original sin was indeed considered influential rather than imputed or constitutional and all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God by choice. Thus our guilt is real and we cannot save ourselves without faith in the sacrifice of Christ which also involves true repentance.

I think Finney didn't so much deny justification by faith alone as he opposed the notion that saving faith could exist without outward evidence. That is, faith causes a change in the person that causes him to detest the sin he once loved.

You state -- If Adam leads us into sin not by inheriting his guilty and corruption but by following his poor example that leads logically to the view of Christ as saving us by example and that is exactly what where where Finney is lead."
This is a statement is not factual. Finney was never lead to the position that Christ saves us by example. Finney clearly taught we are saved not by the example of Christ but by his blood.
You're an idiot; repent

Finney was a good man who believed and preached in salvation by faith alone. He wasn't the first Christian to disbelieve original sin nor will he be the last. I don't agree with him in this matter, but everything else I have ever heard from the man agrees with John Wesley, William Booth and even that old Puritan Walter Marshall. Salvation by faith alone! Finney lived it!

Actually, Finney denied justification by faith alone.

I suggest you study a little more before making assertions in the future because, in essence, you just lied even though it was a lie that I believe was born of ignorance and not one that I believe was willful.
