I barely had enough card memory to take this series of photos about one second apart (as fast as I could click!) in order to create this "real time" animation of a tidal bore using still images. Usually I create time-lapse animation which condense hours into seconds, and so in this case my equipment worked against me and I'd have been better off using a video camera. After the initial wave came through the water in the river slowly rose in height, creating interesting eddies and rapids.
For those who aren't aware, a tidal bore is a rush of water up a river in the OPPOSITE DIRECTION it flows, resulting from an incoming high tide spilling upward into it, increasing in speed as the water is channeled into a narrow space. Though not the most dramatic tidal bore in the world, this one in Truro, Nova Scotia, is one of the ones located in the Bay of Fundy.
