Music video slideshow of a favorite song of the WFAB-TV staff, "Pennsylvania Turnpike, I Love You So" was a country radio hit (at least in Pennsylvania) in 1968, months before our first "Frank & Beans Day Festival" in Willow Grove, PA. The singer, Dick Todd, was best known as a 1930's-40's 'crooner' & nicknamed 'The Bing Crosby of Canada'. He recorded this 'comeback' single in 1968 but he disappeared after that and his whereabouts were never known again, according to internet biographies. The pictures in the slideshow were taken at the Willow Grove exit of the turnpike on 2-12-2011, along with some archival turnpike materials, including a 1960's postcard of the NE Extension in Montgomery County & a 7-5-1976 toll receipt.

  • Wow, the "Milk Bucket Serenade" with Jim Snavely, that was a long time ago, when the original WBYO had some non-religious programming & lots of Southern Gospel!

  • This was also a favorite on WBYO-FM from Boyertown, PA. They would typically play it, usually by call-in request, during their "Milk Bucket Serenade" broadcast, which was every morning from 5 to 7 AM.

  • I've had this 45 since about 1968 when a friend gave it to our band, back in Bloomsburg, PA to learn. It didn't fit in with Hendrix and the Doors but I kept it anyway.

  • I have searched for this song for years!!! OMG I can't believe that I've found it. I can't belive you found it. I grew up in Somerset County and this was played and played, I guess. We didn't listen to too much radio then, but the phrase "now i'm down in somerset and the snow plow ain't come yet. PA turnpike, I'm stuck on you" has been stuck in my head for 43 years. OH THANK you so much.

  • lol wow now I remember it! Talk about bringing back memories! Makes a person miss home even more.

  • The toll today on that receipt would be $9.25! Regarding my first post, Sycamore Ave. is the first traffic light just north of the interchange, and shares a 5-way intersection with Mill Rd. On the northwest corner today stands a Lukoil station. When I was a kid, that was a Mobil with a training center behind it, and I got to meet David "Corky" Calhoun of the 1977 NBA champion Portland Trailblazers when he trained there circa 1980. Calhoun is with ExxonMobil to this day as an executive.

  • Nice footage of two blocks from my childhood home! I grew up on Sycamore Ave. in Willow Grove, behind what used to be Bennigan's. I like to joke that I "escaped FROM Bennigan's" - as I had to park on my front lawn on Friday nights! I miss the Delaware Valley - I'm now stuck between Hershey and Lebanon. When I was a kid, that was Exit 27 of the turnpike (see receipt on video at 1:10) - I used to operate a CB from my house, and because of the large antenna, I called it "Exit 27 Base"!
