Come Just As You Are

Sorry that my video guy starts singing along in a couple of places... I guess that means it was OK... :) This is the very popular invitational anthem "Come Just As You Are" by Joe Sabolick. I think it's a Calvary Chapel song... That's where I first heard it, and I've heard it there many times. One of my favorites...

One of the beauties of the Gospel: we don't save ourselves by our own good deeds - we can not.

All of us are inclined to sin. We love it. When's the last time you thought about God's commandments? Here are a few: You shall not steal. You shall not lie. You shall not use the Lord's name in vain. You shall not covet (long for things that others have).

That's just a few. But have you obeyed them, ALL THE TIME, for your whole life? Be honest.

You see, we face God's judgment and holy wrath because we break His commands (that's what sin is).

But God has made a way to be forgiven. One way only.

We repent (that is, change our minds about our sin - acknowledge that is it grievous, that it matters, that it keeps us alienated from Him and facing that holy wrath - and purpose to LEAVE it), and in that repentant spirit, we place our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died taking the Father's punishment for your sin.

We come just as we are, but God certainly does not expect us to stay that way! Those in Christ are new creations, born again - and in His power we walk in newness of life, abandoning the love of the things of this world, setting our affections on things above. As we walk with Him, we grow, we become more holy, more righteous, more humble.

Come just as you are, renounce your sinful ways, trust in Christ Jesus, believe that God raised Him from the dead just as the Bible says, declare Him to be your Lord, and follow Him all the days of your life. He will Him completely change you.

Where does the bible say "Come JUST as you ARE?" God doesn't accepts sinners the way they are...they must Repent by turning from ALL known sin and put a trusting-submitting relationship in Jesus Christ to receive forgiveness!(See:2Cor.7:10-11,­Lk.13:3,Acts.17:30-31;Mk.1:15;­Acts20:21;Acts.26:20)

Jesus said that REPENTANCE & REMISSION should be preached in His name to ALL the nations (Lk.24:47)...NOT that you "Come Just As You Are." )

Yes. I agree with you. I think the idea of the song is more to communicate that a person can't save himself by his good works, religion, etc. It's not to obscure the need for repentance.

You know what's funny about that? I've never actually heard a recording of the song. I went to a Calvary Chapel for about year a long time ago, and they used to play it sometimes. It's just on the memory of how that sounded that I put this together. That might explain why my vocal sounds different. :)

When the Lord Jesus said repent and believe the gospel, He was saying it to the religious Jews of that time who believe they could have favor with God by good works. Every person who came to Christ came to Him right where they were! The woman at the well, the woman caught in the act of adultery ect. The Scripture says Whosoever will let them come... There are no stipulations but only to come to Him and He will not turn you away.

I love this song because it reflects the Heart of God!

God is so good! We need the fulness of him of his Lordship of his Godhead of his love but what people have forgotten is his holiness. We are called unto holiness

@Acts2620 - It says in the bible that the job of the holy spirit for unbelievers is to convict them of their sin of unbelief in Jesus Christ. So YES sinners should come just as they are and repent of their sin of UNBELIEF in Jesus Christ. Once they have turned from their unbelief then and only then will the holy Spirit start to convict them of their other sins. At that point as the spirit convects them they should start to repent from their different sins.
