A clip from the never released to video (Hey HBO.. why not) made for TV movie, Countdown To Looking Glass. This was a low budget circa 1984 production based on an actual war game that played out one possible scenario where nuclear war would erupt between the USA and the USSR.

  • There's a full version available on Google Video. Note the story about the bank crisis at the beginning.

  • I only saw the tail end of this movie when it was on TV. Even though I knew it was only a show it scared the hell out of me. Want to know how Orsen Welles managed to panic so many people? Watch this (especially the end) and think what you would do if you thought this was a news broadcast. The scariest part? Its more likely to happen now than it was then.

  • It's amazing we're still here today. Thank God it's all just a memory now, and that most of the kids born after or at the end of it all like me, have been able to grow up in a world where this is too old, and too far from reality for us to comprehend how scary this was meant to be.

  • I have seen some scary shit in my day but nothing and I do mean nothing even comes close to this. This is so realistic fuck when it was made!

  • @Telemanque: Yep, they sure did. Ole Chester wouldn't been happy about that......LOL{:-p}.

  • omfg......did they just nuke the uss nimitz?

  • I saw this flic on Google Video and it rules! Very well done and could have really happened! awesome.

  • Finally saw this. While some of the early set-up was nonsense (the idea that Saudi Arabia would ask the US for military assistance in Mecca is laughable), once you get past that it is positivly errie how accurate this movie probably is. Only negative is that it tends to cast the US as the aggressor, though not as bad as The War Game did.

HBO would do well to show this movie again, regarldess of the fact that the USSR doesn't exist anymore. Its successor certainly does.

  • A friend of mine saw this movie in progress...after just waking up- Freaked Out!

They ran the movie- 1st time w/o commercials.

He was in the service, as many of my friends were at that time 1984-Remember the Cold War?

    If you don't-start asking around.

Below the surface an uneasy time if you were in military. At the time, 1st airing I didn't understand how banking can start a war-now I do.

Most wars are started by the banks-to protect their money and make more money. It's just how it is.

  • This fascinating movie has near-eerie similarities to current events in the world today. Very strange. The entire movie can be seen on Google.

  • Still waiting for a official DVD on this. Why the hell isnt this available? Thanks for uploading the scene. This show scared the crap out of me when i was young lol.
