I've done many mods to my Picco Z. I have had it for over a year now and it just keeps going.
The mods that I've added are small ball like push pin to the tip. Added a front wing to catch the rotor wash for forward flight, and the stability while in flight by adding this wing is amazing. It's like now it's coasting on an air cushing along the nose keeping it staight and true. I removed weight by cutting a portion of foam off the body. On the belly of the Picco is a wedge shapped piece of foam at the belly between the tip of the tail and the rear of the landing pads. I cut this wedge out neatly. If you look at your picco you will see what im talking about. Cut at the same angle as the tail down until you hit the landing pads the just cut along the back of the landing pads up toward the top of the body and intersect the cuts and remove the wedge. This gave me a center of gravity closer to the nose of the chopper. I also removed the sticker along the boom and left the tail stablizer just below the tail rotor. It was harder to keep the sticker fin straight and would interfer with stability as the air warped around the waves or ripples in the fin. I re-enforced the rotor shaft by adding a brace at the top of the rotor shaft and the opening of the body. This hole is pretty big and lets the rotor shaft wobble as it revs up. I used a small square peice of plastic and glued it at the opening to accomidate a smaller tighter shaft hole I poked into the plastic. So it has no more play. After all such mods, I've noticed it is absolutely stable. No more wobble and much greater forward flight. It has no more uncontrolled twistes and turns to the right or left and sails as straight as your control over the bird will allow. Any real inconsistances in flight are my air of piloting the heli. Skills do really matter while flying a heli that really isn't suppost to be flown as smooth so remember steady and sensitive movements make a huge differece.

  • the front wing is the best thing to stablize to fly straight and forward. Just a small wing about 1 1/2" long and cut it the shape of a wing and glue it centered with the nose of the play along the buttom of the cockpit or fuselog

  • Sorry the video quality is so bad. I had to record on my PDA camera! Check Video description for mods.
