@28Ikky since Sikhism is derived from Hinduism it's not only common for these two religions, Muslim's from Pakistan and India also do it... I'm not sure how Muslims in other parts have their wedding ceremonies but I know that the ones from Pakistan and India have it like that because of the cultural background they share

Well, it depends where in India you're boyfriend is from. Each region/state has it's own traditions and this wedding tradition is an example of Sikh Punjabi weddings in the west.
