Perhaps that is what they are doing. Or perhaps they are keeping watch for us so we don't become extinct, the universe is a lonely place as it is.

I think that alien civilisations, which are millions of years in advance of humans, would not find the universe lonely or tamper with the evolution of other planets. Who knows............?
