After my moderately ballsy "tikit on trial experiment" http://www.bikefriday.com/tiktiontrial in 2007, I attended the first public hearing regarding proposed bills allowing bicycle access (bill 871) and storage in NY office and residential buildings (Dec 2008). After listening to fear and loathing by landlords and building managers over the costs and hassles, I decided to testify - just to table folding bikes as a partial solution to the problem. My message? At the very least, let's allow folding bikes in buildings at all times, just like Amtrak has done with all trains. A no-brainer, really ...
UPDATE: The bill has been passed as of July 2009. One small crankturn for man, one giant crankturn for bicycle commuters in NYC. Well done Transportation Alternatives!
See http://www.bikefriday.com/ny08 soon for the story (or when I get around to it)
