A really great idea for a late night TV show. Should have had a longer run.

I think DS understates the importance of this show. The sound quality was exceptional. It had true spirit, great musicians, real style. You can really hear it compared to today's shitty music/recording, really really really. I wish more great endeavors such as this would surface.

Yes. I REALLY enjoyed that show when it was on.

I saw some of the best music I have ever heard in Night Music. If it is available on DVD I'll take a copy of every episode.

1989 was too early. Now that "their way" has resulted in pain and lost sales maybe they'll give something like this another real try. People are dead sick of the overcompressed, "packaged" music!

That WAS an incredibly great show- I recall trying to never miss it- and being
just knocked out by the amazing variety of musicians that would appear. I always
wondered why the network never gave it a shot at a better time slot. 11.00
( Central) was not exactly going to get you a lot of viewers !! A pity really...don't think
there has been a show of its equal since, which is a sad commentary on the state
of television programming in this country.

Night Music was indeed the best music related TV show ever. I used to record a lot of the episodes on VHS.. I only wish I had recorded them all but certainly do have some gems in the archives. Some highlights that come to mind.. Pharoah Sanders, SRV, Sun Ra, Charlie Haden, Djavan, Hassan Hakmoun, The Pixies, Al Green, RHCP, Bootsy's Rubber Band, Phil Woods, I knew that show wouldn't last.. it was toooo good for television..

Sanborn hits it on the head. There are brilliant pieces of new music available to those who take the time to hunt them out, the current media output is packaged like tuna, or cereal. Since what used to be "underground" FM radio was corporatized it began it's descent into the realm of promoter of the byproducts of the likes of American Idol, Rap, or the hoochie mamas who have taken the torch from the likes of The Supremes, Galdys Knight and Aretha.

Heresy David, pure unadulterated American heresy. Better to fail? Are you serious? Americans cannot fail. American does do do failure. America is just another way to spell success. Success is not only the best thing -- it is the ONLY thing. Nothing else will be tolerated. Learning, innovation and experimentation are a waste of time. Nothing else matters except the perfect product; the SUCCESSFUL product. Shame on you, David, for saying otherwise.
