Bremer died Oct. 23. He was pursuing a fleeing vehicle late Oct. 22 when his police cruiser crashed into a tree line bordering train tracks near the 500 block of East South Street in Frederick.
Bursts of frigid winds ruffled the flags held by color guards Wednesday as they filed toward the hilltop church for the service. Police expected about 2,500 mourners.
Bagpipes played and sunlight broke erratically through low clouds, lighting upon rows of crisp uniforms and dark suits and dresses worn by those gathered in formation before and after the service.
During the funeral mass, Dine said Bremer came to work every day with a level of enthusiasm and dedication that was humbling to behold. For many years, he strove to be a police officer, Dine said, and he died doing what he loved.
