I"m a great fan of Dean Reed, and most of all admire his sincerity and daring support of just causes in Latin America.
But musically, as an North American this popish half-rocked out version of the blues classic is hard to listen to....compare its bouncy rhythm with stripped down, powerful version by The Animals.
When Western bands came in via cassette to Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union this Pat Boone-like approach was destined to lose popularity.
But his ideas and example never tarnished!
