Oslo/Norway/Europe Extreme Sport Invasion in Norway/Market entrance of Red Bull
The Venice surfer rides a sail boat wave
Two international extreme sport stars paid a respectful visit to the Norwegian
capital Olso this week: French trial biker Julien Dupont, who made a spectacular
ride up and over the famous roof of La Defense in Paris, and Wakeboarder Duncan
Zuur. The Dutchman surfed across the famous Piazza San Marco in Venice and onto
the front pages and news broadcasts around the world. 15 Red Bull Minis rolled
off the ferry into Oslo.
Dupont first "danced" on the roof of Oslos new opera house with his motorcycle.
It was quite slippery in certain spots, said the 29-year-old. Normally I
stick to freestyle courses.
Early morning eyewitnesses watched in awe at the sight never seen before:
Someone riding on the outside of the Opera made out of sleek white Carrara
marble with a trial bike does not happen every day.
After that Dupont drove rode up onto the wooden steps to the Akerhus palace, the
former royal residence. He balanced carefully on the old walls of the
renaissance palace. Riding between the historic canons mounted on the walls
Dupont demonstrated a few backwheel hops before he sped off to evade the oncharging
security guards. Extravagant locations like this one here in Oslo have
their own special allure. You get a real kick from it.
Wakeboarder Duncan Zuur first flabbergasted pedestrians in the "Spikersuppa",
the central square in Oslo -- strutting his stuff with a few dazzling moves
before then jumping directly under the famous statue Sinnataggen over a fivemetre
high water fall. He was propelled for both stunts with a mobile rope
winch.
Zuur made history with a wakeboarding world premiere in Olso's harbour, becoming
the first person to ever surf behind a sail boat. Although it is actually
impossible to sail behind a boat because of its insufficient speed, an electric
winch supplied the extra boost needed to accomplish the eye-catching feat.
"Norway is a great playground. A lot of my extreme sports colleagues are going
to be coming back here with me in the next few months," said the Dutchman,
referring to the market entrance of the energy drink "Red Bull", which has
several hundred extreme sportsmen in its stable.
