This video is meant for a total beginner. It explains simple music theory concepts along with a few reasons why learning music theory is important. It also suggests books that can help a guitarist improve their music theory abilities. These videos are for the serious music students. You will find no guitar tab or other non-professional ways of describing music in these videos. The concepts presented are taught with the same pedagogy any other musical instrument. If you want to develop into a professional musician or want to have the abilities of a professional musician then these would be good videos to investigate.

The C chord is made up of C,E and G, because those notes are a third apart (CDE= a third and EFG = another third).

  • nevermind...i get it...duh....thanx :)

  • you are a great teacher but i am confused about something....don't C E and C make the C major chord? you said C E G....is it an alternate fingering for C major?

What a difference a week of reading can do. This video makes so much sense now that i've taken in some of the basics. I'm practicing writing the major and relative minor scales now. Once I understood what an interval is and how the scales are built around it, it made everything else so much more clearer. Thanks, man.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I went ahead and purchased one of the music theory ebooks from the muse-eek site. I'm reading through it right now.

  • @Broyale26 a chord is 3 or more notes being played simultaneously, like the construct a major triad you take 1 3 and 5 from the major scale a play them simultaneously, this would be an E major chord. An interval is two notes being played simultaneously, like if i play 1 and 3 of a major scale im playing a major third interval, or if i take 1 and 2 (for instance) im playing a minor second. Look into chord construction and learn your scales to understand fully, hope this helps :)
