These are among the largest and longest insects on Earth, both occur in NSW and reach lengths of up to 25 cm. They feed on the leaves of many plants, usually melaleucas, acacias and eucalyptus and resemble sticks or leaves. These insects are completely harmless and have developed many unusual shapes to camouflage themselves to avoid detection by predators. The females are usually flightless and the males usually have wings and flutter through the canopy searching for mates.

UPDATE - This is a TITAN stick insect, not a goliath!

  • So glad I wasn't born a bug.

  • @LucasJodoKast Cool story bro.

  • i once seen a cat playing with one of these out the front of my house, went out to see what it was playing with & my blood ran cold when i realised it was a massive stick insect, this one is tiny, the one i seen was at least 50cm in length & about as thick as 4 of my fingers combined

once seen a praying mantis out the from as well that was almost the size of a cat, something about the big tree we had out the front attracted these mutant insects, wish digital cameras were around back then
