Legend has it that the bandstand in Liverpool's Sefton Park was the inspiration for the Beatle's "Sergeant Pepper" album. The bandstand was built in 1926 on an island in the park that had been opened in 1872 by Queen Victoria's son, Arthur. It was built to encourage the working classes to listen to band music at a time when dancing in public was frowned upon. "Stand by Me" was written by Jerry Leiber and first recorded by Ben E King in 1961 and again by John Lennon in 1972. And now, in 2010 if you want to dance in Sefton Park, even early in the morning - it's OK.

  • requinjinx, sukany, chenmin,

It was great to meet The Chinese and the Thai contingent at the Waterfront Festival in Liverpool, and good to be laughing together. We translated the Thai script to make sure you were saying complimentary things about our dancing. And you were! Glad you enjoyed it. Best wishes to you all. Pat and Alan dancing
