Since then, Kinshasa has grown from 1 million people to 6 million with no planning for the need for increased infrastructure or services like education. Civil war and the collapse of the economy ensued. And who suffers the most? The children, of course. Les Ecoles du Coeur was formed as a nonprofit school to provide free education for children and job training for adults.
