To logic, although this completely fucks up any logic it's the facts I look at, and this states (along with other evidence) that the speed is Mach 5.8 (about). Now until I see anywhere else that says sonic can exceed that I will stick to the answer I have now.

Hmm.., while that is true if you looked at some data about the sonic rainboom it is said that right as she makes the sonic rainboom, her current speed is at Mach 5.8 and after completing the sonic rainboom, the speed is doubled to around Mach 10, these are only rounded numbers. @admiralsftershockrex Actualy on Sonic Jam, they made a bio for Sonic and on the speed part it said "Strong point: Running speed (can exceed mach 1)".

If I'm not wrong, mach 1 is the speed of sound, so he can exceed the speed of sound.

Not to mention his theme on Sonic CD is called "Sonic Boom" for a reason. And on the anime he does Sonic booms all the time like it's nothing.

Hmm I see the sonic guys root for sonic, but really, if there was no air resistance, sonic could easily go faster than RD, but since there is, sonic is not, and there for, does not have the power to bereak the sound barrier, RD has gravity on her side, go figure

No land object can break the sound barrier, not even sonic could. Sorry guys, I had to end it, cuz this is fact, air resistance plays a huge part in this, and sonic needs two F-15 engines to break the sound barrier.
