I didn't hear any difference in sound when you were backing it out and threading it back in.
is it easier to hear in person?

Like said, its the pre 2003 models that have the poor tensioners. You will know as the newer one is brown. The early (crap) tensionser were bare aluminium. I don't know anyone who's brown tensioner has failed. It's the same design thats only hundreds of thousands of bikes.
I can see a problem with the MCCT. Some people may fit and forget. When normal stretch and wear takes place, if you dont adjust it.. you will have a flappy chain and caus damage.

hi i have an issue with my bike when i am traveling in third gear an only third gear. what its doing is it is making a rattling noise like a loose chain can anybody help figure out what is wrong thanks

Doing the fitment this way isnt there a chance the camchain could jump a tooth???

@nitrojoe9 They are still prone to failure though. 2003+ is updated and better, but are still known to fail pre-maturally.

great video! working on an '01 the bolts want to fight back. A little Blaster Spray comes in handy. I took the black bottle out because a regular allen wrench wouldnt break the bolts. Had to use an allen socket on a rachet. Black tank had to come out for this and it was nice having room to work. thanks for making the upgrade easier.
What about putting the engine to TDC before the install?

@m0tyrider No need to. Just get some tension on the adjuster before starting it.

I have a question please help me out!. I have a drz400s 2003 with 2k miles on it. I just bought the bike and it runs great, totaly stock. If i put my head close to the motor when its running i can hear a slight ticking noise. (the same noise you can hear on this video at the end). Is this normal? Or should you not hear that ticking noise at all? Thank you so much to whom ever answers my question!

It it is the same noise you here in mine there is no problem, that was 200 miles ago and I have done nothing but change the oil. These DRz 400 motors are noisy they always sound like something is wrong. I would go to thumpertalk web site and under the Suzuki section you will find the DRZ400 area and do some research if you think you have a real problem.

what are the advantages of using a manual tensioner instead of an automatic one?
lucasgaroto 3 years ago
The Manual one puts to much pressure on the cam chain and it stretches. The manual one is not spring loaded and does not apply a constant pressure so it does not stretch you chain.
