This is an excerpt from a half hour documentary on the life and work of Frank Gilbreth. Gilbreth lived at the turn of the last century and was a student of Frederick Taylor. He studied work to make it more efficient. This excerpt is about his work to improve bricklaying and find the "one best way" to lay bricks. In doing so he made bricklaying more efficient but also safer. More on his life can be found at the Gilbreth Network website.

  • I have the weirdest boner right now.

  • stooping increases one's sexual prowess

  • Good video; but sound is not enough

  • I worked at this one company in kansas city that spent the big money on that Hydomobile scaffold and we still were laying the bricks and other materials up around our necks! Either because of management problems or the hods were to lazy to lift that little hatch to start the engine to raise that damn thing. Frank cared about profits too, his thinking was that, if the bricklayer was going to use his energy, it had better be to lay a damn brick for the Gilbreth company instead of wasting it.

  • well said pal, bricklaying, plasterering, concreting, all these trades & the diy crew usally cock-up!

  • Hi bud no mate thats per man but a gang of 2 and 1 thats just working on the strights and that, are you a bricky your self ?

  • What 800 per man or in gang of two with one labourer?

  • Sorry mate to say but i am a site bricky in england and we re laying 800 - 900 bricks a day bud so your wrong there pal. But you are right 350 bricks an hr mmmmmmmm makes you wounder lol

  • 350 bricks an hour ehh? What a load of bollocks! 500 a day is the going rate and always will be.

  • Have you ever tried laying bricks? Did you know it takes ten years to become an excellent bricklayer who has been there and done that. Bricklaying is just like other skilful trades, but also to have a natural dexterity with tools is a great advantage. I have noted over the years that DIY is limited to trades in which a lot of time can be taken with materials that do not go off The wet trades are the most difficult to master.
